This collection includes a copy of Hudson's 2005 oral history conducted by Paul Stilwell for the Pritzker Military Library, as well as documents donated to the Library by Hudson since that time. Most notable of these documents are two unpublished memoirs by Tsunezo Wachi, commander of Japanese forces on Iwo Jima prior to the American invasion. These memoirs, "The August Virtue of His Imperial Majesty" and "Two Remorse Episodes Behind the Bar at Sugamo, Tokyo" have been translated by Wachi's daughter. Also included is a 32 page scrapbook of newspaper clippings compiled by Hudson's brother in February 1945.

William Hudson was born in 1925 and raised in New York City. In 1944, not long after his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After boot camp, Hudson joined the 4th Marine Division as a Private First Class. In early 1945, Hudson joined the Pacific Theater of the Second World War, most notably participating in the invasion of Iwo Jima in February. After the War, Hudson attended Cornell and New York University before beginning a long career as an educator in New Mexico. ...
